Reuse items you already have

Dammit dolls are a fun project that can make great use of items you probably already have in the house and may even be considering throwing out. This makes dammit dolls the perfect green craft. Some of the items that dammit dolls can be made from include:

  • Old sheets and pillowcases
  • Old and outgrown clothing
  • Scrap fabric
  • Old kitchen towels
  • Old pillows (save the insides too!)
  • Yarn (you can knit or crochet these dolls as well and use your scrap yarn)

These dolls are very versatile and the actual value of the doll is the humor and the thought involved in giving them. They have been around for years but are now making a comeback in popularity.

Basic doll (gingerbread man) shape

almost too easy!

Rememer, the dammit dolls do not have to be perfect or even pretty!  Use a simple doll outline that you have created yourself or downloaded from the internet.  Doll patterns that are a little wider tend to work better than dolls that are too thin.  Simply draw out a head, arms, body and legs.  It does not have to be elaborate or beautiful.

Create your doll

These dolls should be approximately 8-12 inches high.  Plumper is better but not necessary.  Cut a gingerbread like shape from a sturdy paper or poster board.  It is best to use pencil until you get the shape you want.  Then allow about 1/4" seam by drawing a light line above the doll outline.  Cut along the light line and align to your 2 pieces of fabric.  Cut the fabric and then put the wrong sides together.  Sew along the edges of the doll leaving a space to fill on the side.  Turn the doll right side out and stuff with fiberfill.  You can use a crochet or knitting hook or even a pen to get the stuffing into the head, arms and legs.  Then sew up the rest.  Do not over or under fill.  The doll should not be floppy but should not be bursting at the seams with fiberfill either.  *You can also use those plastic filler beads and add some scented oil to make your doll smell good!

For the eyes you can use buttons or the doll eyes you can get from craft stores.  Be as simple or creative as you like.  That is part of the wonderful thing about dammit dolls- they are all unique.  Now you get to attach the poem depending on what kind of doll it is.

Dammit doll, darn it doll, etc.

For Dammit Dolls:

Whenever things don't go so well...
And you want to hit the wall and yell...
Here's a little dammit doll
That you can't do without.
Just grasp it firmly by the legs
And find a place to slam it
And as you whack the stuffing out
Yell, "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!"

Road Rage Dolls:

In your car as you go to work
The guy in front of you is a jerk
Since he won't get outta the way
You yell, "I need to get there TODAY!"
Then to get more frustration out
Just grab the doll and whack it,
On the dashboard as you shout,
"Dammit, Dammit, Dammit!"

Computer dammit doll

Weird things happen as you hit return
Or your keyboard just can't spell
Things don't seem to be going well
And the computer has a sudden "chill"
So instead of yanking the plug out
Just take this doll and whack it
Against the monitor as you shout
Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!Darnit or Dangit for those with delicate ears.
Dammit doll for the pacifist:

Whenever things don't look so well...
And you want to hit the wall and yell...
Here's a little balance boy
To remind you what to do.
Just grasp him firmly by the legs
And think about your talents
And as he looks back out at you
Yell, "Balance! Balance! Balance!"

Good idea - never heard of these - I guess it is the same idea as a frustration ball. :)

Thats aggressive ..I would freak if I saw a child doing that...getting physcal with something when youre angry only encourages it more ..I would rather swear..crazy
